President Donald Trump has granted a one-month exemption on tariffs on cars from Mexico and Canada, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed.
According to the Donald Trump administration , this measure aims to prevent the automotive companies of the three main manufacturers (Ford, Stellantis and General Motors) from facing an economic disadvantage.
"The president is giving them a one-month waiver so they are not at an economic disadvantage," Leavitt said. This waiver will be valid for only one month, but then, starting April 2, reciprocal tariffs will be implemented worldwide with no possibility of waivers.
Trump 's decision to grant this temporary exemption comes just before his plan to impose tariffs around the world, which will begin on April 2. This means that, after that month, there will be no exceptions for companies , and everyone will have to pay the established tariffs .
What did Claudia Sheinbaum say ?
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo revealed during her "morning press conference" on Wednesday that she will try to speak with the government of Canada and other countries to discuss the tariffs that the United States is imposing.
In addition to declaring that this "is a very definitive moment for Mexico," he added that it is possible that he will have a phone call with Donald Trump on Thursday to discuss the matter.

Tariffs for Mexico and Canada
On Tuesday, the Trump administration implemented 25% tariffs on all products from Mexico and Canada, and in response, both countries imposed reciprocal tariffs .
Trump also revealed that he spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau , noting that he believed Trudeau was one of the main causes of trade problems between the United States and Canada due to his weak border policies.
According to Trump , these policies allowed large quantities of fentanyl and undocumented people to enter the United States.
"For those who are interested, I also told Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada that he largely caused the problems we have with them because of his weak border policies, which allowed massive amounts of fentanyl and illegal immigrants to come into the United States."
